Miramare and Trieste Coast Biosphere Reserve
Welcome to the Miramare and Trieste Coast Biosphere Reserve, a stretch of coast at the northernmost tip of the Adriatic, just a stone’s throw from the city of Trieste.
At the heart of this meeting point — where the sea and the Karst meet, Mediterranean and continental climates and species intertwine, and different languages and cultures coexist — stands the majestic Habsburg Castle with its lush park, reflecting in the waters of the Marine Protected Area managed by WWF, a true haven of animal and plant biodiversity.Blending sea and land, the Biosphere Reserve combines conservation activities and the protection of habitats and species with the development of local, traditional, and sustainable economies, creating a perfect harmony between Man and Nature.
